Font 3 (Bank Sans Caps EF EL Medium )

This is my 3rd font, i feel this would work well with my magazine as it has a techno look about it, therefore fitting well with the beats and backing in the music of the genre.

Font 2 (Wopi Script No 2)

This is my second font, "Wopi Script No 2". I believe it is good to be used in my magazine as it is messy, this would link with the genre grime which is very much like hip hop. When you suggest something is grimey it is unclean, therefore it can be associated with being messy.

Font 1 (Anglecut).

This font is called Anglecut, i feel this would be effective in my magazine as it is big, bold and it stands out well. This would work well with a hip hop magazine as it is clean and outstanding like the people involved in the genre try their best to do.

Audience Profile.

This is Tom, he is 19 years old. He is studying Sound Engineering and Production at Birmingham City University. He is always listening to music, and also developing music while at his University whilst undergoing his course.

He enjoys many artists across many different genres. His favourite artist is Tinie Tempah, partly due to the fact he is always listening and following him. He follows the fashion line of Tinie Tempah as he feels it is a good and "up to date" look. He tends to shop in places he feels he can get clothes to match that certain image as he believes it is unique.

Vibe double page spread

The background for this double page spread is very effective in my opinion as it has different poses of the woman in the main image across the page. The background is in white which i feel is a poor choice of colour for a background as it is plain and boring. It is used very well here partly due to the images across the pages. It is also assisted by the layout of the text and titles.
The two pages contain both pictures and text. There is barely any space left on the page which is good showing the article(s) is either important or has a lot to tell the reader and is well explained.
The title is not like a stereotypical title in that it is not in big font. It is in a fairly small font allowing it to fit into the gap between the pictures going across the page and the text. The main colours used for text are; grey, black and blue, whereas in the picture the woman is wearing a deep red dress which doesn't fit with the text colours too well. The blue in the text is used once for a name of the person featured in the article.

Kerrang Double Page Spread

The background in the double page spread here is very effective as it works well with the pictures and text. It is a jet black background with many grey pictures, white text and some red text also. I feel this is a good technique as the typical colour for a page background is white or a pale colour, therefore this is different causing it to stand out.
Both of these pages contain some form of text, and also a couple of pictures. The whole of the left page is dedicated to a large picture in grey which is good as it stands out due to being a much brighter colour to the background.
The text in these pages uses two different fonts, one of the is used purely for the titles which is always in big, bold and outstanding writing. The font has a rock and roll look about it in the ripped affect, etc. It uses two three different colours for font alone, in that it uses; black, white and red. These colours work well as they all stand out when put next to one of the other colours. The red is used the least becuase it shows important parts of titles and text. I feel the colours on text are used well and appropriately as they are aesthetically pleasing and also allow the reader to focus on important points.

NME Double Page Spread

The white backgrond to this double page spread in my opinion is very effective in assisting the main features stand out to the public eye. If the brightly coloured picture and large font sized writing was not there then i feel as though it would result in the background being fairly plain and boring. Thus making readers less interested in the article.
The two pages on contains a single picture, and therefore the rest of the pages are dedicated to text and empty spaces.
The title is in a very odd presented form as it is in white, bold and big text that is contained in seperate black sqaures. I feel this is good because it is different and unique which would attract a reader. The text and picture are both colour co-ordinated well as in the picture the three colours used are; red, black and white. These three colours are repeated throughout text and title. The red in the text is rare but is used to show importance, in this text for example the red is used to highlight the writers name for advertisement reasons. I feel that how they have co-ordinated the colours is clever as then the important features stand out as the colours are very outstanding against each other.
The magazine also gives a whole page to the picture so therefore it is attractive when flicking through pages, etc. This is a good idea as the picture is big and outstanding. The picture is also well suited to fit the article therefore when the readers sees the picture they will understand what the text contains.

The source magazine contents

The banner across the top of the page gives us the words, ‘Master Plan’ and also the title of the magazine. It doesn’t actually tell you anywhere that it is the contents page. I assume they gave it the name ‘Master Plan’ instead as it is very different to any other magazine contents page and also it is interesting as the magazine shows you from the words that they have a ‘Master Plan’ of the magazine. The plan being the contents such as page numbers being linked with articles. Most of the writing for these to are big and bold in a deep black colour. There is also some grey and silver included in the title too.
The main image is eye catching as it is central and very colourful compared to the background which is just a cream colour. The picture is of ‘Lil Wayne’ who is also on the cover of the issue.
The magazine navigation is well presented as the articles are linked to the page number that contains these. This makes it easy for the reader to find what they want to quickly.
‘We cant believe what Weezy’s up to now’, this is singled out in the bottom right hand corner as it is easy to see and the readers will read the text which doesn’t tell you anything making you want to find out more about it.

JET magazine contents page

In the banner at the top of the page is the title of the magazine and also the contents title. The magazine title is there to tell the reader they are reading ‘JET’ magazine and therefore if they enjoy it they are much more likely to buy it again. The contents title stands out due to the colour as it is in big, bold and purple writing which stands out from the other colours involved as it is brighter and a different colour scheme entirely.
Just underneath the title is the date, volume number and also the issue number to tell the reader which issue, date of the issue published, etc they are on.
In the bottom left hand corner is a website that the readers can use to find out more about the magazine, issue and also general information. It is emphasized by having a black box surrounding the bright pink text.
The page guide is also easy to follow as it is in large, clear writing and the pages containing bigger articles are matched to which page contains it.
The main image is very outstanding as it takes it a large percentage of the page and is darker to the general colour of the page and text therefore catches the eyes of the reader much more.
Towards the bottom of the page contains all the publishing information and address of the magazine company, etc.

Vibe contents page analysis

In the background, there is a large and very outstanding ‘V’ as the logo for the magazine is the ‘V’. This is very effective as it catches your eye and emphasizes the page.
Also the colours chosen are based on those of the front cover as they stick to a blue and grey effect. This is good because the colours go well for the genre of music. Kanye West who is the man in the picture is dressed in colours to match the colours of the background by simply editing the original photograph.
The list of where to find pages or articles is on the right hand side in fairly big black font making it easy for the reader. The instructions it gives you are fairly simple as it tells you the article involved and then gives a number for the page to find it on. It also has sub-sections; Features and Fashion. This makes navigation easier as the reader can find what they want much easier.
In the bottom right hand corner of the page, there are a couple of bullet points explaining the pictures on the front cover and also the contents page. It tells you the artist’s name and where the picture was taken, etc.
The main image on the page is more or less central in the page so the reader sees it straight the way. Its big and stands out due to size and colour or the picture. Also another feature that stands out in the picture is the red heart held on him as the majority of the page is in blue or grey and the heart is coloured in red therefore standing out well.
The title ‘contents’, is odd but also affective as it starts a new line twice throughout the word, this also stands out as it is in a bold, black and big font.
